Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo becomes the highest paid soccer player earning $125 million before taxes for 2021-22 season
Early this season, Cristiano Ronaldo joined England’s Manchester United from Italy’s Juventus. The portugese international reclaimed the top spot on this year’s Forbes ranking of the highest-paid soccer players in the world.
Ronaldo is set to earn $125 million in total before taxes for this season. He will earn $70 million from salary and bonus and the rest from endorsements and partnerships with brands such as Nike, Herbalife, Clear and his CR7 brand portfolio which includes perfume, underwear, eyewear, hotels, gyms and more.
The 36-year-old knocked out his arch rival Lionel Messi, who after 21 years at Barcelona departed for the Frech club PSG, where he will be paid $75 million this season, making him number 2 on the list with $110 million. Messi had to switch sides after Spainish LaLiga clamped down on FC Barcelona’s wage spending, forcing the club to end negotiations with the Argentine international. Messi will also be earning an estimated $35 million in endorsements from the likes of Adidas, Pepsi, Jacobs & Co. and budweiser.
