Premier League Trophy

Pieces of evidence of kicking ball games have been traced in many cultures throughout the world in different periods. The modern-day soccer/football is based on the rules of association football laid in the mid-19th century. The aim was to bring uniformity among the various forms, in which the public schools of England played football. In 1863, FA (Football Association) came into existence to look after the aspects of the game.

Professional football got codified in 1885 which later gave birth to the Football league started in 1888. In 1892, a rival league Football Alliance was also absorbed into the Football league, introducing the system of relegation and promotion to 1st and 2nd divisions. In 1992, the First Division clubs resigned from the Football League and the FA Premier League was formed on 27 May 1992. It came as a limited company (to take advantage of a lucrative television rights deal). The Premier League is a top-level English Football League contested by 20 clubs.
